Our Practical Guide to Savor the Wedding Day

Updated: 20 hours ago

First off, congratulations! Planning your wedding is no small feat, and the fact that your big day is almost here is a testament to all the love and effort you’ve poured into it. As a wedding planner, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing countless couples tie the knot, and one thing I always wish for my clients is this: Savor the day.

Your wedding will go by in a whirlwind of excitement, joy, and maybe even a few happy tears. To help you fully enjoy it, here are my tried-and-true tips for being fully present and soaking up every moment.

1. Trust the Process—and Your Team

By the time your wedding day arrives, your planning is done, and the professionals you’ve hired are ready to execute your vision. Let go of the urge to micromanage; trust your planner, your vendors, and the timeline you’ve worked so hard to create. This is your day to enjoy—not to troubleshoot.

If you feel any pre-wedding jitters, designate a trusted friend, family member, or your planner to handle any last-minute questions or concerns.

2. Start the Day with a Centering Moment

Before the festivities begin, take some time to ground yourself. Whether it’s through a quiet cup of coffee, a few deep breaths, or a heartfelt letter exchange with your partner, carving out a few peaceful moments can set a calm tone for the day.

3. Take Mental Snapshots

With so much happening, it’s easy to let moments blur together. Every now and then, pause and take a mental snapshot. Whether it’s during your first look, the walk down the aisle, or the sight of your loved ones dancing, these are the memories you’ll cherish most.

4. Spend Time with Your Partner

It’s your wedding together, but couples often find themselves pulled in different directions during the reception. Schedule moments throughout the day to reconnect—whether it’s a private first look, a quiet moment after the ceremony, or a sneak peek at the reception space before guests enter.

5. Let the Emotions Flow

Weddings are emotional, and that’s a beautiful thing. Laugh, cry, and soak up every bit of the love surrounding you. Your day will be filled with unscripted, heartwarming moments—embrace them fully.

6. Plan to Be Present

It might seem obvious, but being present often takes intention. Resist the urge to stress over little things or feel guilty about not chatting with every guest. Focus on the people and moments that matter most to you.

7. Fuel Your Body

Amid the excitement, it’s easy to forget to eat or drink water. Take time to enjoy the food and cake you’ve so carefully chosen! A well-fed and hydrated couple is a happy couple.

8. Dance, Laugh, and Celebrate

When the dance floor opens, jump in! Let loose and celebrate your love. This is your chance to revel in the joy of your wedding surrounded by your favorite people.

9. End the Night Your Way

Whether you opt for a grand sparkler exit, a heartfelt farewell with close family, or a private moment as newlyweds before heading off, take time to reflect on the magic of the day.

Your wedding day is more than a celebration—it’s the start of a new chapter. So take it all in, cherish every smile, every hug, and every “I love you.”

As your planner, my biggest hope is that when you look back on your wedding, you’ll feel the warmth, joy, and love that filled every moment. You’ve planned this day beautifully—now it’s time to live it beautifully, too.

Here’s to savoring every moment

Cheers to you and your wedding day friends!
