When couples ask us

to recommend truly iconic wedding venues in Indianapolis, one location consistently rises to the top of our list: the Indianapolis Artsgarden.

At Blue Llama Events, we coordinate and design 10 or more weddings at the Artsgarden each year, and after producing so many celebrations in this incredible space, it's easy to understand why couples continue to fall in love with it.

There are beautiful venues, and then there are venues that create an experience. The Artsgarden does both.

An Iconic Indianapolis Landmark

Suspended seven stories above the intersection of Washington and Illinois Streets, the Artsgarden has become one of the most recognizable architectural landmarks in Indianapolis. Since opening in 1995, its soaring glass and steel structure has provided panoramic views of downtown while hosting weddings, corporate events, performances, and community celebrations.

Few venues offer guests the feeling of celebrating in the heart of an entire city.

Whether you're welcoming guests as the sun sets over downtown or dancing beneath thousands of sparkling city lights, every wedding feels uniquely connected to Indianapolis itself.

The Natural Light Is Simply Incredible

If there's one feature photographers consistently rave about, it's the lighting.

The Artsgarden is surrounded by nearly two thousand panes of glass, filling the venue with beautiful natural light throughout the day.

For daytime ceremonies, couples enjoy a bright, airy atmosphere that requires very little enhancement. As evening approaches, the venue transforms completely. The city lights begin to glow, traffic moves beneath your feet, and the glass structure becomes an elegant lantern overlooking downtown.

It's one of the few venues where the scenery changes naturally throughout your celebration without requiring a single décor change.

Two Outstanding Catering Partners

Another reason we frequently recommend the Artsgarden is the quality of its catering partners.

Unlike many venues with a long list of approved caterers, the Artsgarden works exclusively with two exceptional culinary teams:

  • Conrad Indianapolis

  • Ritz Charles Catering

Both provide elevated dining experiences and professional service, allowing couples to choose the style that best reflects their vision.

For our clients, this means they aren't simply selecting a beautiful ceremony space—they're pairing it with one of Indianapolis' premier hospitality teams.

A Dream Venue for Guest Experience

One of our planning philosophies is that every decision should improve the guest experience.

The Artsgarden naturally checks so many of those boxes.

Guests appreciate:

  • Easy access to downtown hotels

  • Walkability to Monument Circle

  • Convenient valet and parking options

  • Nearby nightlife for after-parties

  • Beautiful skyline views

  • A memorable ceremony location unlike anywhere else in the city

Because the venue is connected to the downtown hospitality district, many couples can create an entire wedding weekend without requiring extensive transportation logistics.

Why We Love Designing Here

Every venue has its personality.

The Artsgarden is incredibly versatile.

We've designed:

  • Elegant black-tie weddings

  • Modern minimalist celebrations

  • Romantic floral-filled receptions

  • Multicultural weddings

  • Corporate galas

  • Charity fundraisers

The architecture itself provides such a dramatic backdrop that every design style feels intentional rather than competing with the space.

The venue allows décor to enhance the experience—not overpower it.

Looking Ahead to Downtown Construction

As many couples already know, downtown Indianapolis is experiencing significant redevelopment, including the transformation of the former Circle Centre Mall area.

The good news is that the Artsgarden continues to host weddings and events throughout construction, and current reservations are proceeding as planned.

For our own clients, however, we're taking a thoughtful planning approach.

At the time of writing, we are comfortably booking weddings through the end of 2027. For 2028 celebrations, we're intentionally waiting to see how the ongoing downtown redevelopment progresses before making long-term venue recommendations.

This isn't because we have concerns about the Artsgarden itself. Quite the opposite.

We simply want our couples to have complete clarity regarding construction timelines, guest access, parking, and the future integration of the surrounding downtown district before committing to dates several years in advance.

As planners, our responsibility is always to think ahead so our couples can make informed decisions with confidence.

A True Indianapolis Staple

Trends come and go.

Venues open.

Venues close.

Styles evolve.

Yet the Artsgarden has remained one of Indianapolis' signature event spaces for decades because it offers something that cannot be replicated: a celebration suspended above the heart of the city.

Whether you're planning an intimate wedding or a grand reception, the combination of unforgettable architecture, exceptional natural light, outstanding catering partners, and a vibrant downtown setting continues to make the Artsgarden one of our favorite venues to design and produce.

After planning more than ten weddings here each year, we still find ourselves excited every time those elevator doors open.

Some venues never lose their magic.

The Indianapolis Artsgarden is undoubtedly one of them.
